BHUA Pledge Drive

Brinkley Heights Urban Academy

Is a private Christian School for at-risk inner-city children. BHUA is an interventionist type of school with an emphasis on early intervention through early childhood education. BHUA’s focus is on educating the “whole” student in a nurturing safe environment where academic, social, and spiritual growth is pursued with fervor.

As a member of the National Association of Street Schools, BHUA is a part of a national network of schools that provide personalized education, a moral code and tools for self-sufficiency. BHUA is also a member of the Tennessee Association of Christian Schools and the American Association of Christian Schools.  BHUA is accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)  and The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).

With a focus on our local community, our curriculum includes a Christian world view in conjunction with developing core skills in reading, writing, math, communication, economics and personal responsibility.

Our Kindergarten Class

Our Core Values

Values
such as diligence, faithfulness, respect, honesty, justice, and mercy aren’t just talked about, but are demonstrated.  By modeling day to day the values and principals found in God’s word, our faculty strives to promote an environment that provides for the health and safety of children.  In such a secure setting, children can learn unencumbered, free to fully participate and excel.

Admissions Policy

Admission to BHUA is on a first come, first serve basis. BHUA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, handicap or national origin. To enroll, parents need to fill out and return an Enrollment Application soon as they know they want their child to attend BHUA. If all available space is full then those who have completed and returned their Enrollment Applications will be added to a waiting list.

As spaces open up during the year, eligible children on the waiting list will be allowed to enter the program. Preference is given to children living in the Brinkley Heights neighborhood. Each year, 80% of the children must qualify as low-income and 20% of the openings are available for non-low income children.

Matching Funds Donor commits up to $125K for every dollar you contribute to the end of our pledge drive!

BHUA together with The Memphis TEA Party is working to develop a total of 1,000 pledges of $500 to retire all debt at the school and allow for growth of additional classes.

The school takes no government money thereby allowing for the teachers, the ministers and the community to design and execute programs and a school curriculum that drives towards life long learning, responsibility and success.

Brinkley Heights Ministries has partnered with the community for over 20 years and believes it is necessary to establish a multi-generational effort to change the lives of the children and their families.

Now you can help to accomplish our goal of completing our pledge drive and contributions by 12/25/09.  It is no accident that we have chosen Christmas Day as our goal.  With the completion of this funding effort, BHUA will receive its CO, move into the new expanded facility and begin to add additional students in the new year!

So, please, make a pledge today.  You can send your tax deductible check to BHUA directly at the address below.  Either way you will be helping us make a difference in our community.

So don't delay!  Join us today and make this effort a success. These children are working hard and we need your help to accomplish our goal.  And all of your donation stays right here in Memphis, Tennessee!

God bless you for your consideration.
